Latihan Soal Penggunaan Bentuk Was/ Were dalam Simple Past Tense

Masih dengan topik simple past tense yaa, pada post kali ini akan diulas mengenai penggunaan bentuk was/ were dalam simple past tense. Dalam sebuah kalimat Apabila predikat dalam kalimat berupa kata selain kata kerja, yaitu kata sifat ( adjective), kata benda ( Noun), dan kata keterangan ( adverb), maka harus menggunakan To BE ( Is, am, are, was, were) sebagai kata kerja bantunya. Dalam bentuk Simple Past Tense, kata kerja bantu yang digunakan adalah bentuk was/ were sedangkan untuk bentuk simple present, kata kerja bantu yang digunakan adalah bentuk is/ am/ are. 

Baik, untuk membedakan penggunaan keduanya, berikut beberapa contoh kalimat yang bisa membantu,

• I am not at home now but I was at home last night. (Saya tidak berada di rumah sekarang tetapi tadi malam saya berada di rumah)
• The weather is not good today but yesterday it was good.  (Cuacanya kurang baik hari ini tetapi kemarin cuacanya bagus)
• Bram is late now but yesterday he was not late. (Bram terlambat sekarang tetapi kemarin dia tidak terlambat)

Untuk pembentukan kalimat positif, subject diletakkan sebelum kata kerja bantu was/ were baru diikuti oleh bentuk adjective, adverb atau noun.  Sedangkan untuk kalimat negatif, hanya tambahkan saja not dibelakang dari bentuk was/ were. Untuk kalimat tanya, was/ were diletakkan di depan kalimat sebelum subject. 

Contoh :

• She was at the station last night to wait for her son.
• The weather was not good last night.
• Were you at home yesterday?

Kata kerja bantu was digunakan untuk subject : I, he, she,it dan kata bantu were digunakan untuk subject : you, we, they
