Latihan Soal Tes Akademik Bahasa Inggris Bintara Polri Plus Pembahasan

Setiap tahunnya Kepolisian Negara Republik Indonesia atau Polri membuka kesempatan pendaftaran bagi bagi lulusan SMA, D-IV/S1 dan S2. Biasanya pendaftaran dibuka pada semester awal tiap tahunnya. Para peserta harus melalui beberapa tes atau ujian untuk lolos ke tahapan berikutnya. Salah satu tes yang harus dijalani oleh peserta adalah tes akademik, yang terdiri dari tes bbahasa Inggris, bahasa Indonesia dan pengetahuan umum yang jumlah soalnya mencakup 150 butir soal dengan dikerjakan sistem CAT (Computer Assisted Test).

Jumlah soal bahasa Inggris pada uji akademis bintara polri pada tahun ini (- tahun 2019) berjumlah 50 soal, bahwasanya, tahun ini terjadi perombakan format soal apabila dibandingkan pada ujian tahun- tahun sebelumnya yang lebih mengacu pada kemampuan grammar menjadi full soal format reading comprehension. Untuk prediksi format soal tahun berikutnya kemungkinan besar masih menggunakan format yang sama seperti tahun ini.

Soal reading comprehension yang diujikan dibuat sepadan dengan tingkat kesulitan pada soal- soal tingkat SMA dengan berbagai topik teks dan jenis pertanyaan. Nah, untuk melengkapi belajar adik- adik menghadapi ujian akademik bintara polri, berikut saya susun soal berdasarkan beberapa topik yang relevan dan sesuai dengan tingkatan kemampuan siswa SMA plus pembahasan disetiap akhir soal. Semoga soal latihan ini memberikan referensi baru bagi adik- adik yang sedang belajar giat menghadapi ujian seleksi ini.

Text for number 1-3
The number of damaged roads linking Jakarta with West Java has certainly provoked complaints from locals and road users. Take for an example, the roads in Bekasi and Tangerang, which have been the focus of the media.
The poor condition of these roads not only jeopardizes road safety but also gives a squalid impression. Moreover, the condition will get worse when it rains. The roads are transformed into water pools or puddles, which can easily cause accidents if motorists are not careful.
No wonder if some people question why there are so many damaged roads and why repairs do not seem to last long. The government should pay special attention to these problems.
In my opinion, the road should be repaired using the right sort of asphalt, stones an sand. Repairs should be done carefully so that the roads can be prevented from constant damage. Otherwise, the repairs would be useless.

Continued progress in advanced technology is not necessary. Already the technical progress in our world has caused severe pollution in the air and in the water. Although the technical progress in previous years has been helpful, recent technology has significantly increased pollution. Another reason to stop technical progress is that many inventions which were developed for good causes are now also used for powerful weapons to have been found have serious side effects. For example, pesticide put inside particle boards to prevent termites has now be found to be toxic to human life. Technology does not always bring good effects; for example, computers do much work faster than man, but then man loses his job to a machine. Because no man can guarantee that technology will have only good effects and will be used only for the benefit of man, we should delay the continued development of technology.

Three landslides struck Bangli district in Bali on Friday leaving 12 people dead and five others injured, according to the Bali Disaster Mitigation Agency.
Heavy rainfall on the tourist island over the past several days has generated floods across the province leading to landslides hitting Songan, Awan, and Sukawana villages, located in Kintamani sub-district on the slopes of Mount Batu, agency spokesperson Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said. 
“We warn people to continue to be vigilant about further disasters," Sutopo said, adding that more heavy rain was likely in Bali and people should be aware of the possibility of landslides and floods.
Members of two families were among those killed in Songan village including a 1-year-old boy, his 7-year-old sister and their mother. Four people were killed in Awan village, and one person died in Sukawana village.
The agency said two people in Songan village were hospitalized with severe injuries, two others suffered minor injuries, and five homes were buried. (dan)

Garuda diverts Yogyakarta flights to Surakarta after runway accident

Yogyakarta (JP)- National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has temporarily diverted its flights intended for Adisucipto Airport in Yogyakarta to Adisumarmo Airport in Surakarta, Central Java, after one of its planes overshot an Adisucipto runway lane on Wednesday night.
“All of Garuda Indonesia flights heading toward Yogyakarta, for a total of 34 flights, now will [be diverted] to Surakarta,” Garuda Indonesia VP of corporate communications Benny S. Butarbutar said in an official statement on Thursday.
The flights include 10 coming from and going to Jakarta, three to and from Denpasar, Bali, two to and from Makassar, South Sulawesi, and one flight from Surabaya, East Java.
The airline would provide a bus at Adisumarmo Airport to transport passengers to Yogyakarta.
Garuda Indonesia is still evacuating the Boeing 737-800 NG, which slipped on the runway and overshot a lane on Wednesday night. It carried 123 passengers, none of whom were harmed.
Garuda aims to finish evacuating the aircraft on Thursday afternoon. (bbn)

Internet has been the most outstanding invention in the history of mankind. With internet, our earth has become a global village. Yet, like many other human like technologies, it has its own advantages and disadvantages.
There are plenty of software that can entertain us or help us to communicate with our beloved ones. In mere second, we can chat for hours with a person who is sitting at the other parts of the world, read our e-mail in our smartphone or listen our favorite radio broadcast by streaming it in our tablet.
With its easy access, internet also has its disadvantages. One of them is children may be exposed to violence and explicit contents that only suitable for adults. There are thousands of such inappropriate contents on the internet which can be easily found. It is a very serious issue and may harm children well- being
Although internet can create havoc and destruction, its advantages are more important than its disadvantages.

Salah satunya adalah ekstensi Chrome untuk membantu kita dalam belajar bahasa asing yaitu Read&Write for Google Chrome. Read&Write, merupakan salah satu ekstensi Chrome yang menyediakan berbagai alat, untuk mempelajari bahasa asing termasuk text-to-speech, kamus, kamus gambar, dan terjemahan.

Cara Mudah Membuat Media Pembelajaran Interaktif Flash Card dengan Quizlet

Kita mengenal flash card sebagai kumpulan set kartu yang digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran siswa. Kartu- kartu ini berisikan informasi baik angka ataupun huruf di kedua sisinya. Sisi yang satu berisikan pertanyaan atau clue sedangkan sisi yang lain merupakan jawabannya. Karena berbasis permainan, sistem pembelajaran dengan media flash card biasanya sangat digemari oleh siswa. Media flash card ini sangat cocok diterapkan dalam semua bidang mapel yang menuntut siswa untuk menghafal. 

Pembuatan flash card secara manual  relatif mudah, tinggal menyiapkan alat atau media yang akan dibuat seperti kertas warna- warni, gunting, spidol warna dan sebagainya. Kreatifitas akan menentukan hasil yang menarik. Buka alamat web nya di https://quizlet.com, daftar lebih dulu dengan email anda.

Pada tampilan dashboard Quizlet, buat set pembelajaran.

Isikan set pembelajaran anda, 

Tulis judul dan atur tampilan set kartu anda.

Mulailah mengisikan set kartu. Sebagai contoh saya membuat flash card untuk pembelajaran bahasa Inggris ungkapan sehari- hari (daily expression). Saya mengisikan istilah  dengan ungkapan bahasa Inggris dan definisi dengan arti dari istilah yang sudah saya isikan tadi. Anda bisa menyisipkan gambar, audio (fitur premium) ke dalam set kartu yang anda buat. Isikan sampai selesai lalu klik "buat".

Anda bisa membagikan set kartu yang sudah dibuat melalui email, tautan atau membagikannya melalui Google Classroom anda.

Inilah tampilan saat flash card anda sudah selesai.


Belajar Materi dengan Quizlet
Quizlet menyediakan dua fitur utama yaitu untuk mempelajari materi dan permainan. Untuk mempelajari materi dalam set kartu ajak siswa untuk membuka quizlet dengan membuka tautan baik yang dikirimkan melalui email atau tautan langsung yang sudah anda kirim tadi.

Pada bagian kiri tampilan, siswa anda akan menjumpai menu "pelajari", menu ini berguna untuk mempelajari materi yang diajarkan melalui set kartu yang sudah anda buat sebelumnya. 
  • Flashcard, Berisikan set kartu yang sudah anda buat sebelumnya. Siswa akan menghafal isian kartu.
  • Pelajari, fitur ini memberikan pilihan kuis bagi siswa untuk menjawab secara benar pertanyaan sambil mereka mempelajari jawaban yang benar. Saat menjawab salah mereka akan diberitahukan jawaban yang seharusnya benar.


  • Tulis, fitur ini memberikan kuis bagi siswa untuk menulis jawaban yang benar berdasarkan kosakata dalam set kartu.
  • Pengeja, fitur ini siswa akan mendengarkan kosakata dan menuliskannya secara benar kosakata tadi.
  • Tes, pada bagian ini disediakan tes yang akan merangkum semua materi isian dalam set kartu.
Bermain dengan Quizlet
Fitur kedua dari Quizlet adalah permainan. Quizlet memberikan tiga fitur untuk bermain yaitu mencocokkan, gravitasi maupun live. 
  • Mencocokkan, permainannya adalah dengan menarik item yang saling berhubungan ke satu sama lain untuk membuat item tersebut hilang. Permainan ini dilengkapi dengan batasan waktu mengerjakan yang akan membuat siswa terpacu untuk menyelesaikan kuis atau permainannya. 
  • Gravitasi, permainan ini untuk melindungi planet dari asteroid yang berjatuhan. Asteroid tersebut berisikan ungkapan yang anda buat. 
  • Live, fitur ini memungkinkan anda untuk bermain secara kolaboratif di kelas. Siswa akan melihat dan terlibbat secara langsung dalam permainan yang anda buat. Siswa dapat bergabung dengan memasukkan kode ke www.quizlet.live atau memindai kode QR yang berada di layar melalui app Quizlet live.

Mencoba Busuu, Aplikasi Menarik untuk Belajar 12 Bahasa Asing

Untuk memulainya, pertama tama silahkan buka website resminya di https://www.busuu.com. Pada tampilan website, silahkan pilih bahasa apa yang ingin dipelajari. Ada dua belas bahasa yang disediakan. Sebagai contoh, saya memilih bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa yang ingin saya pelajari. 

Lengkapi data seperti nama, email dan kemudian buat sandi anda.

Pilihlah kursus yang disediakan oleh Busuu apakah berbayar atau gratis. Fitur berbayar tentu lebih lengkap dalam fitur dan paketnya. Akan tetapi sebagai permulaan untuk menggunakan fitur yang berbayar, tidak ada salahnya mencoba yang gratis dulu.

The Caribbean Islands are known by several names. The earliest name used by Europeans is the Indies, later changed to the West Indies. There are four large islands in the Caribbean Sea. They are Cuba, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and Hispaniola. (Hispaniola is divided into Haiti and the Dominican Republic.) These four islands are often called the Greater Antilles. Together, they account for about 90 percent of the land area of the Caribbean Islands. The rest of the Caribbean Islands are much smaller. They are often called the Lesser Antilles. Some of these islands are no more than tiny slivers of exposed coral. You can see why pirates such as the famous Blackbeard sailed these waters. There are countless small islands to bury treasure or hide on. 
The weather of the Caribbean Sea is almost always warm and sunny. Sandy beaches line the coasts of many islands. This is why millions of tourists visit the islands each year. Many tourists arrive on cruise ships. 
But Life in the Caribbean Islands is not always paradise. Violent hurricanes or volcanic eruptions can make the islands a very dangerous place to be. In the summer months, hurricanes can sweep in from the Atlantic Ocean, bringing destructive winds to the islands. 
The Caribbean Islands are a mix of many different cultures. The first people to live there were the native Taino and Carib Indians. Most people in the Caribbean speak Spanish, but French, Dutch, and English are widely used, too. Half the people work the land as farmers. Many still work on large sugarcane or coffee plantations. Other important crops include bananas, citrus fruits, cotton, and tobacco.

Like a lot of other ideas, chewing gum developed when an inventive person was trying to develop something else, In 1870, Thomas Adams was trying to create substance similar to rubber. Cuscus
The cuscus is a large marsupial native to the Northern forest of Australia and the large, tropical island of Papua New Guinea. The cuscus is known to range in size from just 15cm to more than 60cm in length, although the average sized cuscus tends to be around 45cm (18inches). The cuscus has small ears and large eyes which aid the cuscus through it's nocturnal lifestyle.
The cuscus is an arboreal mammal, and spends its life almost exclusively in the trees. The cuscus rests in the trees during the day, sleeping in the dense foliage and awakens at night to start moving through the trees in search of food. The cuscus is an omnivorous animal but the cuscus mainly eats leaves and fruits occasionally feasting on small birds and reptiles.
The cuscus is thought to breed throughout the year rather than having a strict breeding season. The mother cuscus gives birth to between 2 and 4 baby cuscus after a gestation period of just a couple of weeks. As with all marsupials, the female cuscus has a pouch on her tummy which the new born cuscus babies crawl into and stay until they are bigger, less vulnerable and able to start feeding themselves. Typically only one of the cuscus babies will survive and emerge from the pouch after 6 or 7 months.
The cuscus has a long and very strong prehensile tail which is naked (has no fur) at the end. This allows the cuscus to be able to grip onto the tree branches more easily when the cuscus is moving from tree to tree and resting during the day. The cuscus also has long, sharp claws which help the cuscus when it is moving around in the trees. The cuscus has thick, woolly fur which can be a variety of colours including brown, tan and white.

USE OF FORMALIN AND OTHER ADDITIVES IN FOOD
The use of formalin and other dangerous preservatives in food has been a serious for two reason. Firstly, formalin is not for human beings, but it is for biological specimen and experiments. Formalin in Biology is a 10% solution of formaldehyde in water which is usually used as a disinfectant or to preserve biological specimens. Thus, it is not for food preservative, it will be very dangerous to human's body.
The second reason is that there is no tight control from the government. This condition makes the people's health is really in a threat. When the control is weak and the use of formalin is spread wide all over the Indonesian regions,and these days it has really happened, the citizens' bodies will be badly contaminated with the poisons. Fish or food traders still sell their products which contain formalin and dangerous preservatives. Can you imagine that our digestive system absorbs  the substance that should be for the human and animal corpses?
Considering the reasons, we can make a conclusion that the use of formalin and other preservatives is really a serious problem if it is not resolved immediately.

Most people picture sharks as huge, powerful, frightening predators, ready at any moment to use their sharp teeth to attack unwary swimmers without provocation. There are numerous fallacies, however, in this conception of sharks.
First, there are about 350 species of shark, and not all of them are large. They range in size from the dwarf shark, which can be only 6 inches (5 feet) long and can be held in the palm of the hand, to the whale shark, which can be more than 55 feet long. A second fallacy concerns  the number and type of teeth, which can vary tremendously among the different species of shark. A shark can have from one to seven sets of teeth  at the same time, and some types of shark can have several hundred teeth in each jaw. It is true that the fierce and predatory species to do possess extremely sharp and brutal teeth used to rip the prey apart; many other types of shark, however, have teeth more adapted to grabbing and holding than cutting and slashing.

In fact, only 12 of the 350 species of sharks have been known to attack humans, and a shark needs to be provoked in order to attack. The types of shark that have the worst  record with humans are the tiger shark, the bull shark, and the great white shark. However, for most species of shark, even some of the largest types, there are no known instances of attacks on human.
