During a hypomanic episode, an individual may feel very good, be highly productive, and function well. The person may not feel that anything is wrong, but family and friends may recognize the mood swings and/or changes in activity levels as possible bipolar disorder. Without proper treatment, people with hypomania may develop severe mania or depression.

The apps, games and websites that are promoted as ‘educational’ are not always the best ones for supporting learning. The fact that they’re interactive doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re much better than an old-fashioned workbook with its right and wrong answers. Children may enjoy these products for a while but then get a bit bored, and we now know that they are not the most appropriate or engaging way to learn.
Treat so-called ‘free’ apps with caution. Some will expose your child to adverts. Don’t rely only on the star rating, but read the user reviews and check the privacy policy if you’re worried about the personal information that the app might be collecting. If you want your child to enjoy learning, to develop curiosity, and to think about things creatively then provide them with a range of games and apps. Open-ended games that become progressively more challenging and encourage children to explore and have fun are more likely to establish a love of learning and to lay the foundation for their future development.

Emotion is a complex, subjective experience accompanied by biological and behavioral changes. Emotion involves feeling, thinking, activation of the nervous system, physiological changes, and behavioral changes such as facial expressions. Different theories exist regarding how and why people experience emotion. These include evolutionary theories, the James-Lange theory.
More than a century ago, in the 1870s, Charles Darwin proposed that emotions evolved because they had adaptive value. For example, fear evolved because it helped people to act in ways that enhanced their chances of survival. Darwin believed that facial expressions of emotion are innate (hard-wired). He pointed out that facial expressions allow people to quickly judge someone’s hostility or friendliness and to communicate intentions to others.
Recent evolutionary theories of emotion also consider emotions to be innate responses to stimuli. Evolutionary theorists tend to downplay the influence of thought and learning on emotion, although they acknowledge that both can have an effect. Evolutionary theorists believe that all human cultures share several primary emotions, including happiness, contempt, surprise, disgust, anger, fear, and sadness. They believe that all other emotions result from blends and different intensities of these primary emotions.
In the 1880s, two theorists, psychologist William James and physiologist Carl Lange, independently proposed an idea that challenged commonsense beliefs about emotion. This idea, which came to be known as the James-Lange theory, is that people experience emotion because they perceive their bodies’ physiological responses to external events. According to this theory, people don’t cry because they feel sad. Rather, people feel sad because they cry, and, likewise, they feel happy because they smile. This theory suggests that different physiological states correspond to different experiences of emotion.

A study showed that a single artisanal coral reef fishery can produce over 30,000 meals per year, with an annual economic value of more than $78,000. The study was conducted in the Hawaiian bay of Kiholo by Conservation International, the Hui Aloha Kīholo — a community-based stewardship group — the National Geographic Society, The Nature Conservancy and the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa.
Ocean and coastal ecosystems bring a range of benefits to people worldwide, providing food and livelihoods to millions, but global and local stressors threaten these services. To better understand the benefits from ocean environments, the authors of this study investigated how an artisanal fishery supports a community, using a community-based approach to assess the factors affecting resource sustainability and food security in a small-scale coral reef fishery. The authors found that the small-scale Kīholo Bay fishery provides large-scale benefits to communities. "This coral reef fishery generates diverse social, economic and cultural values, which support the health and well-being of the Kīholo community," said lead author Dr. Jack Kittinger, director of Conservation International's Hawai'i program. "These benefits are likely common to coral reef fisheries across the globe, supporting key food security functions, cultural practices as well as local livelihoods."
The results of the study suggest that similar coral reef fisheries around the world provide to the people who depend on them with the same types of benefits. The survey found that 58 percent of the caught seafood is kept for home consumption, 34 percent is given away and only 8 percent sold to commercial markets. "We found that the vast majority of the catch is kept for home consumption or given away as part of cultural practices, showing the important role that this bay plays in sustaining our community," said Jenny Mitchell, a board member of Hui Aloha Kīholo. "When Kīholo thrives, so do we."
By surveying fishermen for an entire year, researchers were able to estimate that the fishery produced more than 7,300 pounds of seafood per year for the community of people who rely upon the fishery. Nearly 60 percent of the catch is used for subsistence, contributing to community food security, and geographic analysis of community beneficiaries showed that 20 percent of seafood procured is used for sociocultural events that are important for social cohesion.

Eating one avocado a day as part of a heart healthy, cholesterol-lowering moderate-fat diet can help improve bad cholesterol levels in overweight and obese individuals, according to new research published in the Journal of the American Heart Association.
Researchers evaluated the effect avocados had on traditional and novel cardiovascular risk factors by replacing saturated fatty acids from an average American diet with unsaturated fatty acids from avocados.
Forty-five healthy, overweight or obese patients between the ages of 21 and 70 were put on three different cholesterol-lowering diets. Participants consumed an average American diet (consisting of 34 percent of calories from fat, 51 percent carbohydrates, and 16 percent protein) for two weeks prior to starting one of the following cholesterol lowering diets: lower fat diet without avocado, moderate-fat diet without avocado, and moderate-fat diet with one avocado per day. The two moderate fat diets both provided 34 percent of calories as fat (17 percent of calories from monounsaturated fatty acids/MUFAs), whereas the lower fat diet provided 24 percent of calories as fat (11 percent from MUFAs). Each participant consumed each of the three test diet for five weeks. Participants were randomly sequenced through each of the three diets.
Researchers found that Compared to the baseline average American diet, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) -- the so called 'bad cholesterol' -- was 13.5 mg/dL lower after consuming the moderate fat diet that included an avocado. LDL was also lower on the moderate fat diet without the avocado (8.3 mg/dL lower) and the lower fat diet (7.4 mg/dL lower), though the results were not as striking as the avocado diet.
Several additional blood measurements were also more favorable after the avocado diet versus the other two cholesterol-lowering diets as well: total cholesterol, triglycerides, small dense LDL, non-HDL cholesterol, and others.
These measurements are all considered to be cardio-metabolic risk factors in ways that are independent of the heart-healthy fatty acid effects, said Penny M. Kris-Etherton, Ph.D., R.D., senior study author and Chair of the American Heart Association's Nutrition Committee and Distinguished Professor of Nutrition at Pennsylvania State University, in University Park, Pennsylvania.
"This was a controlled feeding study, but that is not the real-world -- so it is a proof-of-concept investigation. We need to focus on getting people to eat a heart-healthy diet that includes avocados and other nutrient-rich food sources of better fats," Kris-Etherton said.
In addition to MUFAs, avocados also provided other bioactive components that could have contributed to the findings such as fiber, phytosterols, and other compounds. The Mediterranean diet, includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fatty fish, and foods rich in monounsaturated fatty acids--like extra-virgin olive oil and nuts. Like avocados, some research indicates that these not only contain better fats but also certain micronutrients and bioactive components that may play an important role in reducing risk of heart disease.
"In the United States avocados are not a mainstream food yet, and they can be expensive, especially at certain times of the year. Also, most people do not really know how to incorporate them in their diet except for making guacamole. But guacamole is typically eaten with corn chips, which are high in calories and sodium. Avocados, however, can also be eaten with salads, vegetables, sandwiches, lean protein foods (like chicken or fish) or even whole."

Perlu diingat, carilah buku soal yang mempunyai penyelesaian akhir yang baik, artinya soal yang lengkap dengan cara penyelesaiannya. Mengetahui pola dan bentuk soal SBMPTN adalah hal yang utama, mengapa? Karena soal SBMPTN mempunyai bentuk, pola, tingkat kesulitan dan kerumitan yang berbeda dengan soal- soal yang pernah kamu pelajari sebelumnya seperti di SMA. Pada sistem SBMPTN 2019 ini berbeda dari tahun sebelumnyya, yaitu pelaksanaan tes berbasis UTBK diberikan kesempatan dua kali. dari situ bisa diketahui dan diukur taraf kesulitan soalnya pada kesempatan yang kedua.

Beberapa waktu lalu saya memposting latihan ujian Nasional Bahasa Inggris SMK materi listening, Semoga saja bisa menambah pemahaman dan memperdalam kemampuan mendengarkan adik- adik. Pada tulisan kali ini, saya akan sajikan sebagai pelengkap dalam latihan menghadapi ujian nasional bahasa Inggris SMK tahun 2019 yaitu materi reading. Materi reading dalam Ujian nasional tahun 2019 berdasarkan kisi- kisi BSNP terdiri dari teks fungsional pendek seperti announcement, label, dan sebagainya serta teks descriptive, recount, report, dan procedure.

Berdasarkan kisi- kisi BSNP tersebut, kita bisa memetakan materi untuk soal reading yaitu :
  1. Peserta didik dapat menentukan topik, tujuan, latar belakang, peristiwa, deskripsi, referensi makna /persamaan kata , rujukan kata dan kesimpulan dari teks descriptive, recount, report, dan procedure.
  2. Peserta didik dapat menentukan topik, tujuan, latar belakang, informasi rinci, referensi makna , rujukan kata dan kesimpulan dari percakapan pendek misalnya tentang Past Activities, Kegiatan sehari-hari, Rencana kegiatan yang akan datang
  3. Peserta didik dapat menentukan ungkapan yang tepat untuk melengkapi dialog misalnya tentang menawarkan sesuatu, persetujuan, memberikan opini, passive voice, kejadian waktu lampau, meminta ijin – giving suggestion, kalimat pengandaian dan sebagainya.

Dari pemetaan soal diatas, kita bisa melihat bahwa soal reading akan terbagi menjadi tiga yaitu reading comprehension untuk beberapa teks, kemudian soal berdasarkan dialog tertentu dan terakhir adalah melengkapi ungkapan dalam dialog.

Soal- soal tersebut bisa untuk mempersiapkan UNBK kemudian USBN Bahasa Inggris SMK tahun 2019. Soal berjumlah tiga puluh lima dan dikerjakan secara online dengan skor nilai akan tertera setelah mengerjakan semua soal.

Two years ago I had a chance to fly in an aeroplane. This was my first flight so I was very nervous. I feared that sorts of accidents might happen on the way. I thought that the engine might burst and come down with a crash. Sometimes I was afraid that the pilot might make a mistake and I had to pay for it with my life.
Soon after I had seated myself there, the sound of the engines rose to a roar as moved off, and gradually its speed. Then it was with a feeling of surprise I noticed that the ground was at some distance beneath me. As the plane went higher and higher up in the air, a strange sensation ran through my body. Soon, the motion was easy. The fear which overtook me at the time of flight was no more in my heart. Now I was quite bold in the air.
This did not mean that I felt the worse for it. I felt as comfortable in the aeroplane as I used to feel in my car. I felt no sense of insecurity. I did not occur to me even for a moment that my life could ever be in danger. The machine flew as smoothly in the air as a boat glides down a peaceful stream.
When the plane was at sufficient height, I looked through the pane of the window. The earth seemed to be “falling off” from us. The big building looked like a small spots of beauty. The sky was clear. Everything looked new and strange.
The most beautiful thing was the scene around me. I saw nothing but was surrounded by pure air. Occasionally I saw clouds floating here and there.
We flew over the roofs of many houses. At one place we were very near the roof and I felt that we were going to touch it. After flying for a long time, we finally touch the earth. The journey was so pleasant and comfortable that I could not forget it.

1. Membuat Video Pembelajaran
Salah satu keterampilan penting yang mesti dikuasai oleh guru abad 21 adalah kemampuan dalam mengedit, membuat, mengolah dan memanfaatkan video interaktif. Guru mesti mampu menguasai keterampilan ini. Teman- teman guru dapat memanfaatkan fitur- fitur video yang disediakan secara luas di website seperti Blubbr, YouTube video editor,  Blubbr, Teachem, TED Ed, Edpuzzle dan lainnya.

2. Membuat Website
Blog website bukanlah hal yang baru. Blog website adalah sarana untuk menumpahkan isi pikiran kita saja namun sebagai wadah juga untuk membagikan informasi kepada pembacanya. Guru bisa menuliskan  materi, pemberian tugas bahkan menuliskan pengalaman sebagai motivasi yang sangat berguna untuk keterlibatan siswa dalam pembelajaran melalui blog website. Guru bisa memanfaatkan platform blog seperti Blogger, Edublog, WordPress, Kidblog, Wikispaces, dan Weebly

3. Membuat Kuis Online
Kuis dalam pembelajaran akan membuat peserta didik kita menjadi lebih kreatif dan menjadikan pembelajaran menjadi tidak membosankan. Teman- teman guru bisa mencoba beberapa website yang menyediakan fitur kuis ini seperti Testmoz, Quizalize, FlipQuiz, Riddle, dan QuizBean.  

4. Memanfaatkan Learning Management System (LMS)
Learning Management System (LMS) menjadi sangat populer penggunaannya akhir- akhir ini. Penggunaan LMS dapat mencakup semua kebutuhan pembelajaran mulai dari penyampaian materi secara daring, sampai dengan pemberian tugas dan kuis dapat ditampung melalui fitur platform LMS. Beberapa LMS yang sangat populer digunakan saat ini adalah seperti Moodle, Schoology, Edmodo, dan sebagainya.

5. Membuat Digital Portofolio
Dalam dunia pendidikan, portofolio berisikan berbagai hasil pekerjaan, tugas, dan juga nilai yang ditujukan untuk memberi gambaran tentang perkembangan belajar dan prestasi siswa. Bila sebelumnya kita masih menyuruh siswa mengumpulkan semua bentuk portofolionya secara konvensional, Dalam abad teknologi sekarang ini, Digital portofolio merupakan langkah yang tepat dalam menghimpun semua portofolio siswa kita. Selain lebih sederhana dan aman,  digital portofolio juga memudahkan kita untuk mengecek satu persatu portofolio dari peserta didik kita. Beberapa situs yang bisa kita coba seperti Google Sites, Weebly, Pathbrite, dan Silk.

5. Membuat Presentasi
Membuat presentasi dengan powerpoint adalah hal yang biasa. Namun dalam hal ini, kita akan lebih mengembangkan keterampilan membuat presentasi kita yaitu dengan membuat presentasi yang menarik lagi dengan berbasis internet. Kita bisa memanfaatkan beberapa fitur yang tersedia melalui website- website tertentu misalnya Google Slides, Haiku Deck, Prezi, Zoho, dan sebagainya.

Participle merupakan kata kerja yang di-kata sifatkan sehingga berfungsi sebagai kata sifat (adjective) yang memberikan keterangan kepada kata benda (noun). Dalam kalimat, participle dapat berupa bentuk continuous tense dan perfect tense, dan dalam bentuk tersebut participle tetap berfungsi sebagai kata kerja.

Ada dua jenis participle yaitu Present Participle dan Past Participle. Keduanya memiliki penggunaan yang berbeda pula. Pada umumnya participle dapat digunakan bersama dengan auxiliary verb atau modal sehingga membentuk progressive (Continuous) Tense, Perfect Tense, dan Passive Voice.
