Punthuk Setumbu, a small hill located 4 km west of Borobudur Temple, Magelang, Central Java, is the best spot to enjoy sunrise with the majesty of the Temple as its background. The hill is standing 400 meters above sea level and able to hypnotize visitors with its astonishing landscape.
Punthuk Setumbu used to be a local farmland. After a photographer took a beautiful picture of sunrise at the top of the hill, this place is then converted to one of tourist attraction in Central Java. The summit is not too wide furnished with a gazebo, some benches to rest, and a unique photo spot hanging to its slope.
To enjoy the beauty sunrise, a visitor needs to get the top by trekking about 20 minutes from the parking area and is suggested to visit in dry season.

Last holiday my friends and I went to Bali for a field trip. We went there by bus. When we arrived in Tuban, the bus stopped at a restaurant for a rest. My friends and  I got off the bus to have meal for lunch. Then, I went to the toilet. It took only a few minutes.
When I came out again, the bus I rode was not there. It had left! I looked for my friends around the restaurant but they were not there too. I felt shocked and confused. I  didn’t know what I had to do. Then I asked the security of the restaurant about the bus and he said that the bus had left about ten minutes ago. I thought that the bus had left when I was in the toilet.
I tried to call my friends one by one but none was answer my phone. I couldn’t do anything but pray and hope. After several minutes,  the bus came back. One of my friends knew that I was not in the bus and  told   the bus driver that I was left in the restaurant. 
Then I got on the bus and walked to my seat. I was so embarrassed when all of my friends looked and laughed at me. I thought it was my unforgettable experience in my life.

Penggunaan bentuk simple Present tense dan Present Continuous tense seringkali membingungkan meskipun sama- sama terjadi pada waktu sekarang (present). Dalam penggunaannya, kedua tenses tersebut memiliki perbedaan yaitu dalam keterangan waktu yang digunakan, selain itu, struktru kalimatnya juga berbeda.




Nah, pada kesempatan kali ini, kita akan berlatih soal penggunaan simple present tense vs present continuous tense pada materi bahasa Inggris kelas 8 SMP/ MTs Semester 2. Sebelum berlanjut ke dalam latihan soal, berikut  review  materi tentang simple present dan present continuous.

Simple Present Tense


Subject + V I (Kata Kerja Bentuk I) + s/es*

                                          *s/es khusus untuk subjek orang ketiga tunggal (He, She, It)

Adapun penggunaan dari Simpe Present Tense adalah sebagai berikut;
a. Menyatakan suatu kebiasaan yang dilakukan
   Contoh:
  1.    He usually goes to school at 6.30 o'clock.
  2.    We always watch TV at night
  3.    They swim on Saturday.
  4.    He often plays volleyball at noon.
b. Menyatakan kebenaran umum
   Contoh:
  1.    The sun rises in the east and sets in the west
  2.    The earth revolves around the sun.
c. Menyatakan peristiwa saat ini
   Contoh :
  1.    Anna plays piano well.
  2.    She works hard at her office.
  3.    He looks pale today.
Inilah penanda waktu (keterangan waktu), adverbial of place ( keterangan tempat), dan juga adverbial of frequency ( keterangan frekuensi) sering digunakan  dalam Simple Present Tense.

Present Continuous Tense

Positive : S + am/ is/ are + V-ing
Negative : S + am/ is/ are + not + V-ing
Question : Am/ is/are + V-ing ?

Penggunaan Present Continuous Tense
a. Untuk meyatakan  peristiwa yang sedang berlangsung pada saat ini ( sekarang).
Contoh :
  1. I am not driving now.
  2. They are studying Math right now.
  3. The dog is barking now.
b. Menyatakan perbuatan yang sudah direncanakan akan dilakukan pada masa mendatang ( keterangan waktu harus disebutkan).
Contoh :
  1. She is leaving Yogyakarta tomorrow.
  2. The train is arriving tonight.
Beberapa bentuk waktu yang digunakan dalam Present Continuous Tense adalah sebagai berikut,
  • Tomorrow : besok
  • Tonight; malam ini
  • Today; hari ini
  • At present ; pada saat ini
  • Now; sekarang
  • This evening ; sore ini
  • This afternoon ; siang ini
  • At this moment ; sekarang ini
  • Dan sebagainya.
